The National Association of Australian Teachers of the Deaf (NAATD) was established as the professional body for Teachers of the Deaf in 1935. The Association currently represents over 300 Teachers of the Deaf in Australia and provides advocacy and policy support, continuing professional education opportunities, and stewardship and access to the Deafness and Education International Journal.

Teachers of the Deaf work with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and their families in a variety of educational settings including Schools for the Deaf, Unit classrooms, early intervention programs, and in Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf roles supporting students in their local schools.
